Senators are appointed by the Governor-General. Ten are appointed on the advice of the Prime Minister, four on the advice of the Leader of the Opposition; one is appointed under the Governor-General's discretion to represent interests deemed important to Antigua and Barbuda; one is appointed on the advice of the Barbuda Council and one must be an inhabitant of Barbuda and is appointed on the advice of the Prime Minister.
